Writing Center Frequently Asked Questions

 

The Writing Center is for anyone who wants help with a writing assignment. For example, some students come in for help on grammar; others come for help brainstorming; others want help in proofreading or documentation.

The Writing Center helps students with writing assignments in any class in any curriculum. You will find that you will receive writing assignments in a wide variety of classes, including math!

Generally, a tutor will spend 30-45 minutes with a student. If there are multiple issues with your paper, additional sessions may be suggested.

No. The Writing Center does not revise papers for you. Tutors work with you and teach you how to improve your writing.

We only work with one paper at a time. You will need to make multiple appointments for multiple papers. However, the appointments can be back-to-back.

You should bring your professor's instructions along with anything you have written and any ideas for your paper.

You can certainly come in with your group project. However, we do require all members of the group to participate in the session. If members are missing, we will be limited to reviewing the work of writers who are present.

Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are strongly recommended. An appointment will guarantee that you will work with a tutor at the time you need.

The Writing Center is located in Greenley Hall on the third floor.
