Frequently Asked Questions
I have been very busy and missed the deadline for filing the intent to graduate form, can I still participate in the Spring Commencement ceremony?
If you did not file by the deadline you will not be able to participate in the ceremony. Additionally, your name will not appear in the Spring Commencement program.
I received my diploma in December, but did not participate in the Winter Commencement and would like to participate in the Spring Commencement ceremony.
Due to very limited space, December graduates cannot attend Spring Commencement. Only under certain compelling situations, and with permission from the registrar, can you attend the Spring graduation
Must I have a cap and gown to participate in the Spring Commencement ceremony?
Yes, you must have a cap and gown to participate. Caps and gowns will be available for purchase via the Barnes and Noble Bookstore starting Monday, April 1, 2019. You must make your purchase prior to May 13, 2019 (the last day of finals). If you are unable to make it into the bookstore, please call them. Make sure to try on your cap and gown after purchasing to make sure it fits and all the parts are included (robe, hood, cap, tassel).
When will Spring Commencement tickets be distributed?
Check the Spring Commencement homepage for updated ticket information.
Can I get more than four tickets for the Spring Commencement?
Due to the size of the graduating class, no extra tickets will be available for the Spring 2019 commencement. Exceptions will not be made.
One of my guests has special seating needs because of a disability. How can I arrange for appropriate seating?
Please send an email to commencement@farmingdale.edu including your name, and the full name of your guests. Have your guests arrive when the doors open for the graduation ceremony. To insure enough seating, the area for special needs is limited to the specific individual needing special seating. The individual does not need to sit alone. One other, not needing special seating, may sit with that individual.
Must I attend the sign in, instructions, and line up?
Yes, 5:00pm arrival time for graduates is mandatory and that is where we will be making sure you have your card filled out correctly so that your name is called and you are recognized. Additionally, instructions will be given in terms of how to line up, march, and be recognized on the platform by the President of the College.
Will my picture be taken at the ceremony?
Your picture will not be taken at the ceremony. Professional portraits by appointment will be available at the following times: April 23, 2019 in Roosevelt Hall from 9am-5pm and during the Senior Graduate Fair (April 24-25, 2019; times vary by appointment). Schedule your Senior Portrait appointment through Island Photo.
