The Tutoring Center at Farmingdale State College is pleased to offer RamTutor, a new online tutoring service designed to pair FSC students with tutors for courses that are unique to the College. Thank you for your patience as we work to refine this exciting new initiative.
About RamTutor
- This is a free service for currently enrolled FSC students, offering individual appointment based tutoring sessions for select Dental Hygiene and Nursing courses. Specific course and tutor availability is listed in the online tutoring schedule section below.
- All sessions are conducted remotely through Blackboard Collaborate, with the option of using a webcam, microphone, interactive whiteboard, or instant message chat.
- RamTutor tutors work for the Tutoring Center at Farmingdale State College and hold a minimum of a Master's degree and have prior teaching or tutoring experience with undergraduate College students.
- Students are required to schedule an appointment for a RamTutor session. Please view the RamTutor online tutoring schedule page for more information. Please be advised that all appointments are not recurring (students will need to book an appointment for each requested session).
- In order to remain accessible to all students, sessions are limited to a maximum of one-hour per course per day.
- Tutors are NOT permitted to complete any assignments for you (such as homework/projects), nor can they assist with graded material (such as take-home exams). Please do not ask it of them or expect them to do so. Failure to comply can result in loss of online tutoring privileges.
- Farmingdale State College Tutoring Center staff are permitted to view and monitor all online tutoring sessions for quality control and compliance with College policies.
Student Responsibilities
Similar to the on-campus tutoring centers, students have responsibilities associated with utilizing RamTutor online tutoring services. This includes, but is not limited to:
- All students should attend their class sessions, take notes, and complete their assigned readings. Students should consult a tutor after first seeking assistance from their course instructor. Students should come to their session prepared with specific questions and/or concepts in which further assistance is needed. Tutors are not substitutes for attending class and they are not responsible for teaching course material or completing course assignments.
- Students who utilize online tutoring services are required to follow all College policies and procedures, including the College's policy on Academic Integrity. Failure to comply may result in a referral to your course instructor and the Dean of Students office.
- Tutors are NOT permitted to complete any assignments for you, nor can they assist with homework, take-home exams, or any graded material. Please do not ask it of them or expect them to do so. Failure to comply can result in loss of online tutoring privileges.
- Bring relevant textbooks and classroom notes to each session. You will be expected to have read the text or notes and have prepared questions for your tutor.

RamTutor appointment scheduling policies
The following information only applies to RamTutor, which offers individual online tutoring sessions with a tutor from Farmingdale State College on Blackboard Collaborate.
How to schedule an appointment
Please review the online tutoring schedule above, which lists the courses that have tutors available on RamTutor this semester. You will find the name and availability of each tutor. In order to schedule an appointment, please click on the "Book an online tutoring appointment" button, which will direct you to RamTutor's Microsoft Bookings page. The booking page will allow you to select the subject area, tutor, and preferred appointment date and time. If a particular day or time is grayed out, it means the tutor is not available and please select an alternate day/time. Please note: you must login using your FSC e-mail account in order to book the appointment. Appointments booked from non-FSC e-mail addresses will not be accepted.
Appointments must be made at least 24 hours in advance and may be made up to 30 days in advance. You will receive an automated e-mail confirming your appointment. You will also receive a follow-up e-mail from the tutor with instructions on how to access the online tutoring room.
Appointment length/frequency of appointments
The default duration of an online tutoring session is 50-60 minutes. In order to have the service remain accessible to the greatest number of students, appointments in excess of one hour will not be booked. Furthermore, students will only be able to schedule a single appointment per tutor per day. Back to back/double bookings will be cancelled. Please be advised that all appointments are not recurring (students will need to book an appointment for each desired session).
Cancellation/rescheduling policy
Students are required to provide at least 24 hours' notice for canceling or rescheduling an appointment. This can be accomplished by clicking "Manage booking" in your confirmation e-mail from Microsoft Bookings, or by sending an e-mail to Email. Students who fail to attend their online tutoring session without first notifying the tutor or Tutoring Center professional staff will be marked as a "no show" and may be subject to restrictions as to future online tutoring appointments.
Accessing the online tutoring session
After the appointment has been scheduled through Bookings, the tutor will send a separate e-mail confirming the appointment with a link to the online tutoring room.
