What is the mission statement of the TRIO Student Support Services Program?
TRIO provides opportunities for academic development, assists students with basic
college requirements, and motivates students toward successful completion of their
postsecondary education. The mission is to increase the college retention and graduation
rates of its participants.

For a thorough list, please refer to our services. |
How do I know if I am eligible?
You can read more information on program eligibility. |
Do I need to be a freshman to enroll in TRIO?
No, we welcome eligible transfer students and upperclassmen to apply as well. |
Do I need to be enrolled in specific majors to join?
No, we accept any students who meet one or more of our eligibility criteria and display
the requisite determination to actively participate in TRIO and succeed in college.
|
How do I apply?
Fill out the online application. You can also print out a paper copy and return it
to our office in Laffin Hall, Room 112.
|
What happens after I apply?
Once your application has been received and reviewed, we will contact you to set up
an interview with our staff to discuss your goals, our program services, and how these
may fit your needs. It's your chance to learn more about who we are and what we do,
as well as our chance to gauge your willingness and readiness to become an active
participant in the program.
|
I have been accepted, so what do I do next?
The first thing to do is to meet with your assigned TRIO counselor to sign your contract.
This is a short, 15-minute meeting to confirm that you understand what we offer and
what we will expect of you in order to help you achieve your goals. We recommend ongoing
appointments with your counselor, as those who are closer to their counselors tend
to feel more connected to the program and perform better academically.
|
How often do I meet with my counselor?
Freshmen are expected to meet with their counselor once biweekly, or on an as-need
basis if more contact is necessary to address a particular situation a student is
facing. Upperclassmen meet with their counselor a minimum of twice per semester, or
on an as-need basis.
|
Does TRIO provide grant aid, jobs and/or scholarships?
We currently do not provide direct funds. However, we work diligently with our students
to obtain on and off campus employment and scholarships, oftentimes providing referrals
and reference letters to deserving students. We have hired work-study students in
the past for general office work and student tour guides. To learn more about the
work-study program, refer to the Financial Aid Office.
|
How does the fee waiver for orientation work?
All new TRIO students are exempt from paying for orientation. If you paid while already
enrolled in TRIO or during the intake process, we help you get reimbursed.
|
What are your office hours?
We are generally open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. |
